In a Dr3amst8 | Q+A W/ Karina Singh
We had the pleasure of talking to Karina Singh ( @dr3amst8 ), a 16 year old artist, about her work and her inspirations. Karina's art consists mainly of portraits or figures with psychedelic elements.

So, how would you describe your style?
​
"I never really think about my style but probably slight realism, dream-infused, and also slight surrealism."
​
I would say so too. Why did you start draw and painting?
​
"I’ve been encouraged to create since birth since my mom is an artist as well, but I never really started taking art seriously until about March 2019 when a friend started making art and inspired me to get better. Also, I realized I was trash then."
​
What would you say drives you to create now?
​
"What drives me is honestly just the motive to get better. I always want to improve and just having a collection of art that I can showcase for myself and others is enough to keep me going."
As you mentioned, your style is kinda dreamy and psychedelic where do you think you got that from?
​
"Hmmmm, I honestly don’t really have an answer for that but I do think part of it was wanting a coherent collection of pieces, and kinda step outside the box of just using reference pics over and over without adding anything to them. So, changing up the colors was something that helped me feel like I was changing and adding to the piece, and also so I didn’t have to use the same colored pencils over and over.

What do you hope your audience gets out of your art?
​
"I couldn’t ask for anything more than “oh that’s cool!” and then going on with their life. I just wanna spark a lil joy or inspire others to create. I love seeing friends or even strangers taking inspiration to make something of their own.."
​
Next we have our wild card question: If aliens said they were coming down to earth to destroy it in 24 hours what would you do in your last day
​
"I'd just spend the day with my family and friends and my boyfriend, I don't know, maybe smoke a bowl because I'd be freaking the fuck out. Maybe I’ll try heroin for the first time. No. No I’m not gonna do that."

So, what would you say if your favorite piece(s) thus far?

"These two because they both got positive feedback and genuinely turned out the way I wanted them to."

What do you do when you feel uninspired?
​
"I sit around for a bit and take a break but usually I’ll go thru Instagram and find some reference pics or look at art tiktoks."
​
Lastly, what do you love?
​
"I think I love a lot of things, a lot of big and little things, but if I had to choose some, hmm. My parents and sister, my boyfriend, my dog, the sun, hot showers, warm laundry, soft clothes, and concerts in small venues. There’s a whole lot more that I’m not gonna list."
